With 24 locations across the Metro Atlanta area and more than 35 years in practice, Resurgens Orthopaedics strives to be an active, trusted member of its communities. That commitment to being a good neighbor is put into practice year-round, with a variety of initiatives ranging from health expos to free outdoor fitness classes, and the work of the Resurgens Charitable Foundation which promotes active lifestyles for people of all ages and abilities by building all-inclusive playgrounds and contributing to a wide range of community programs with the same mission.
The Holiday Season is one of the most important times to give back, and this year Resurgens Orthopaedics has undertaken several initiatives designed to promote activity, raise spirits, and ease burdens. "It is important for us to give back to the communities where we live and work" said Alex Bateman, Resurgens Orthopaedics CEO. "We are fortunate to be part of a growing and supportive community and we will always do our part to help those in need and celebrate the season."
OPERATION WALK - Orthopaedic surgeons change lives every day by providing care that relieves pain and restores mobility, giving patients their active lifestyles back. Perhaps no transformations are as touching and satisfying as those that come about because of Operation Walk. A national initiative, Operation Walk takes place each December and provides every element of orthopaedic treatment -- surgery, hospitalization, and pre- and post-operative care -- at no cost to patients who may not qualify for government health coverage, have insurance, or afford surgery on their own.
This year, five Resurgens Orthopaedics surgeons -- Dr. Jeffrey Peretz (St. Joseph's/Sandy Springs), Dr. G. Dale Lane (Roswell), Dr. Mathew Levine (Cumming and Roswell), Dr. Charles Claps (Fayetteville and Newnan) and Dr. Mark Hanna (St. Joseph's/Sandy Springs) are participating in Operation Walk, donating their time and services to bring relief to patients in the Metro Atlanta area.
COAT DRIVE -- During October and November, Resurgens Orthopaedics invited its communities to Share the Warmth and drop off coats, scarves, hats, gloves, and blankets at any of its 24 locations. Hundreds of pieces were collected and donated to domestic violence and homeless shelters across the Atlanta area, providing warmth to those in need this winter. This year was the 13th Coat Drive that Resurgens has conducted.
OUR HEART TO YOUR SOLES -- Our Heart to Your Soles is a national program to provide foot care to homeless individuals, and takes place in approximately 40 cities each year. Dr. Gary Stewart of Resurgens Orthopaedics has led the Atlanta Heart to Soles event for the past 14 years. This year on Nov. 3, several Resurgens Orthopaedics doctors and staff who specialize in foot and ankle care gathered at the Central Night Shelter in downtown Atlanta. There, they offered the men at the Shelter free foot exams and medical care, along with a new pair of socks and shoes.
GRANT A GIFT - For the second year, Resurgens is helping to brighten the holidays for three local families. The community was invited to nominate a local individual or family who need a helping hand this holiday season. Resurgens chose three families from the nominations to help with their individual needs. Last year's Grant-a-Gift recipients received help with rent, utilities, groceries, and holiday gifts. This year's families will be notified, and gifts will be distributed before Christmas. We hope that the families we help will find a little relief -- and joy -- this holiday season.
JINGLE BELL JOG - Resurgens Orthopaedics was the title sponsor of the Atlanta Jingle Bell Jog, which took place on Dec. 12 in Piedmont Park. Resurgens Orthopaedics doctors and staff participated in the jog and were on-site to provide information and fitness giveaways to keep everyone moving from neck to toes, muscles to bones. Toys were collected from participants and guests and donated to Toys for Tots.
