If you’ve been making excuses not to exercise, geocaching might be exactly the type of fun and challenging activity you need to motivate yourself. In geocaching, you use a GPS unit or smart phone app to locate “caches” that other geocachers have hidden in parks, cities, and other locations all across the country. No matter where you are, there are likely dozens of caches located nearby!

Have you been making excuses about your pain? Many people go through their lives dealing with the pain of orthopaedic conditions that could be solved by making an appointment at one of our convenient 24 locations in communities across the metro Atlanta area. So what excuses have you been making? You're too busy? Do you think it will take weeks to get an appointment? Can't take time off work? Resurgens Orthopaedics is doing everything we can to eliminate those excuses so you won't have to just accept pain as part of your life.

Speaking of excuses, we know that many of you are making excuses to get out of exercising. You might say, "A gym membership is too expensive," or "I'm too busy to exercise." No matter which excuses you use to avoid working out, we want to encourage you to stop with the excuses and find a way to exercise that works for you. In honor of May 24th as National Scavenger Hunt Day, we'd like to tell you about a fun activity that can help you capture the feeling of a treasure hunt while you get some exercise outdoors (and if you already have a smart phone or GPS unit, it won't cost you a dime). It's called geocaching, and if you've been making excuses not to exercise, it might be exactly the type of fun and challenging activity you need to motivate yourself.

National Scavenger Hunt Day: Geocaching

In geocaching, you use a GPS unit or smart phone app to locate "caches" that other geocachers have hidden in parks, cities, and other locations all across the country. No matter where you are, there are likely dozens of caches located nearby! The caches are usually filled with small trinkets left by previous adventurers, plus a logbook that you can sign to leave your mark for future geocachers to see. You can even leave a trinket of your own!

The best thing about geocaching is that it gives you the thrill of a treasure hunt while giving you an excuse to explore those little known urban areas or take a leisurely hike in the splendor of Mother Nature. No matter where you geocache, you'll be doing a lot to improve your cardiovascular health, strength, and endurance, and because it's so much fun, you'll never want to make an excuse to get out of it. Of course, geocaching isn't the only fun outdoor activity you can do to beat your excuses; there's no limit to what you can do! If you want to stop making excuses, the first thing you should do is talk to your doctor about physical activities you can do that are appropriate for you age and fitness level. Are you ready to stop the excuses?
