Resurgens Orthopaedics congratulates Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick on her election to the Georgia State Senate for District 32.
Dr. Kirkpatrick will be the first female orthopaedic surgeon to serve in a state legislature, the second Republican female in the Georgia Senate and the third physician in the Senate.
Dr. Kirkpatrick has practiced orthopaedic hand surgery in the metro Atlanta area for over 30 years and has recently retired from clinical practice. She served as Co-President of Resurgens Orthopaedics from 2003-2014, handling the business of running the 3rd largest orthopaedic group in the country. She is a founder of the Resurgens Charitable Foundation and currently serves as Executive Director. She served on the State Board of Workers' Compensation for 10 years and was President of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society from 2015-2016. She is on the Council of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Kay is a master trainer for TeamSTEPPS, a program that teaches teamwork and communication in healthcare. She is a District Coordinator for the Medical Association of Georgia's Medical Reserve Corps.
"Dr. Kirkpatrick is a passionate and effective advocate for patients and physicians in Georgia," says MAG President Steven M. Walsh, M.D. "Keeping in mind that there are currently just four physicians in the General Assembly, this election represents a great opportunity for our patients and our profession and the state's health care system."
