Resurgens Orthopaedics surgeons Dr. Jennifer Bruggers and Dr. Gary Stewart have been elected members of the American Orthopaedic Association. Membership in the prestigious organization is awarded following a stringent peer-review process and fewer than 10% percent of practicing orthopaedic surgeons have achieved AOA Membership.
According to the AOA, The FAOA (Fellows of the American Orthopaedic Association) designation after a surgeon's name signifies that the surgeon has achieved recognition for exceptional accomplishments and leadership in the orthopaedic specialty and have demonstrated a commitment to leadership in the various areas of orthopaedic practice.

Dr. Gary W. Stewart is a Board-certified orthopaedic foot and ankle specialist at Resurgens Orthopaedics in Atlanta, GA. He completed his medical degree, residency and fellowship at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a board member at Resurgens Orthopaedics, Dr. Stewart helps to oversee one of the largest orthopaedic practices in the nation. Dr. Stewart has been a part of the Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2013. His role as Chief of the Division of Foot and Ankle allows him to share his passion for medical education with his residents and students. In addition to his leadership within Resurgens Orthopaedics, he was a fellow of the AAOS, and AOFAS, enabling him to practice on the leading edge of orthopaedic foot and ankle education, techniques and innovation.
Dr. Stewart graduated from the 2018/2019 American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Leadership Fellow Program, one of ten orthopaedic surgeons chosen for the program which identifies and develops the future leaders of the AAOS. He is also a member of the 50th Class of Leadership of Atlanta and the physician chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at Resurgens Orthopaedics. Dr. Stewart is an active member of the communities in which he practices and has led the Resurgens Orthopaedics Coat and Blanket Drive for ten years, providing thousands of coats and blankets to Haven House, a domestic violence shelter, as well as several homeless shelters in the Atlanta area. Dr. Stewart also participates in the Hearts to Sole program, in which Resurgens doctors give free foot exams and shoe fittings to homeless men in metro Atlanta.
Dr. Jennifer Bruggers is a Board-certified orthopaedic trauma surgeon at Resurgens Orthopaedics, practicing in the Marietta and Midtown locations.She is also Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center. Dr. Bruggers received her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, followed by a residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans and a fellowship at Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeons of Northern California. She is associated with the American Orthopaedic Association, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, AO Trauma, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Georgia Orthopaedic Association, among others and is a graduate of the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leader Program. Dr. Bruggers encourages female medical students to consider orthopaedics as their specialty through her work with the Perry Initiative.
The AOA equips orthopaedic surgeons with knowledge and skills necessary to lead effectively in the ever-changing landscape of the health care environment. Through its diverse constituency of orthopaedic leaders, the AOA focuses on leadership, academic, and critical issues associated with the specialty.
