Calcific Tendinitis of the Shoulder (Reactive Calcification

This painful shoulder condition occurs when calcium deposits form in tendons of the rotator cuff. These tendons and surrounding tissues in the shoulder become inflamed. Reactive calcification often develops in young people, but it can affect people of all ages. This condition is closely related to calcific tendinitis of the shoulder, though the reactive form involves a more acute inflammatory response. When calcium deposits contribute to impingement, shoulder impingement surgery may be recommended.
