Shoulder Procedures

Depending on your diagnosis the prescribed treatment may include surgical or non-surgical options. Follow the links below to view educational videos about the various shoulder procedures performed by the expert Physicians at Resurgens Orthopaedics.

Types of Surgical Shoulder Procedures

Resurgens Orthopaedics specializes in a number of shoulder surgical procedures. These operations help patients suffering from torn rotator cuffs, damaged shoulder joints, proximal breaks in the upper arm, and other ailments.

Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint Separation Repair

AC Joint Separation Repair is a surgery that repairs a severe separation injury of the AC joint in your shoulder.

Mini-Open Rotator Cuff Repair

Mini-Open Rotator Cuff Repair is a surgical procedure that is used to inspect and reattach torn tendons in the shoulder's rotator cuff, using small tubes.

ORIF Surgery for Proximal Humerus Fracture

ORIF (Open Reduction Internal Fixation) Surgery for Proximal Humerus Fracture is a surgical procedure that helps stabilize and repair a proximal break in the humerus (upper arm), by installing a metal plate.

Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement

For patients suffering from a complete rotator cuff tear or have suffered a failed shoulder replacement, a Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement replaces a damaged shoulder joint with artificial components.

Rotator Cuff Repair (Mini-Open, Supraspinatus Tendon-to-Bone Insertion)

Rotator Cuff Repair is a surgical procedure used to repair a torn supraspinatus tendon, one of the tendons that form the rotator cuff of the shoulder. In this procedure, the tendon is reattached firmly to the head of the humerus.

Shoulder Resurfacing

Shoulder Resurfacing is a surgery that reshapes the damaged head of the humerus and replaces it with a metal implant.

Stemless Shoulder Arthroplasty

Stemless shoulder arthroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that repairs or replaces an injured shoulder. Metal and plastic components replace the damaged bones to improve mobility and pain in the shoulder.

Total Shoulder Replacement

A Total Shoulder Replacement is a special surgery to replace the damaged head of the humerus and cartilage from the shoulder joint with a metal and plastic joint.

Minimally Invasive Shoulder Surgery

Several shoulder procedures are minimally-invasive, requiring smaller incisions and less intensive surgical operations. These treatments often involve probes and a specialized camera to make small, detailed repairs.

Arthroscopic Bankart Repair

Arthroscopic Bankart Repair is a procedure that is used to repair a detached labrum, which is a thick band of cartilage that lines the shoulder socket and keeps the ball of your humerus in place.

Arthroscopic Capsular Plication

Arthroscopic Capsular Plication is a minimally-invasive surgery for patients with loose shoulders. This surgery relieves pain and loss of shoulder stability by inserting a radiofrequency (RF) probe into the shoulder. This RF probe stimulates the shoulder joint's surrounding tissue capsule, helping it to contract and tighten.

Arthroscopic Capsular Release

Arthroscopic Capsular Release is a minimally-invasive surgery for patients suffering from adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder). This surgery relieves pain and loss of mobility in the shoulder by inserting a radiofrequency (RF) probe into the shoulder. RF waves emitted from the probe help cut the shoulder joint's tissue capsule to allow for increased freedom of movement.

Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair

Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair is a surgical procedure used to inspect and reattach torn tendons in the shoulder's rotator cuff, involving small tubes and a specialized camera called an arthroscope.

Biceps Tenodesis

Biceps Tenodesis is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure used to repair a rupture or partial tear of the biceps tendon in the shoulder or to treat chronic tendinitis.

Diagnostic Arthroscopy (Shoulder)

Diagnostic Arthroscopy is a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure commonly used to identify problems in the shoulder joint. A Diagnostic Arthroscopy is performed with the aid of a specialized camera called an arthroscope.

Distal Clavicle Excision (Resection, Arthroscopic Technique)

Distal Clavicle Excision (Resection, Arthroscopic Technique) is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure, where the surgeon removes the end of the clavicle at the acromioclavicular joint in the shoulder, in order to decompress the joint, relieve pain, and restore loss of motion caused by arthritis or impingement.

Glenohumeral Debridement HemiCap® Resurfacing

Glenohumeral Debridement HemiCap® Resurfacing is a minimally-invasive procedure used to remove tissue in the shoulder joint that has been damaged from arthritis, overuse or injury. The procedure involves inserting a small camera, called an arthroscope, into the shoulder joint.

Shoulder Impingement Surgery

Shoulder Impingement Surgery is an outpatient procedure used to relieve shoulder pain by decompressing the tight space around the rotator tendon of the shoulder joint. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the bursa and trims back the acromion bone to allow for normal pain-free motion.

SLAP Repair

SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior-Posterior) Repair is a procedure used to repair a SLAP tear of the biceps tendon at the point where it connects to the labrum, a ring of cartilage that surrounds the shoulder socket. SLAP repair is performed under general and regional anesthesia, and patients usually leave the hospital the same day.

Types of Non-Surgical Shoulder Procedures

Some shoulder procedures are outpatient procedures that can be performed without surgery. These treatments generally involve injections into the area of the shoulder that is experiencing pain.

Intracapsular (Glenoid) Injection

Intracapsular (Glenoid) Injection is a procedure where a mixture of anesthesia and anti-inflammatory medication is injected into the space between the head of the humerus and the glenoid. An Intracapsular Injection can be used to treat a variety of painful conditions, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and adhesive capsulitis.

Joint Injection

Joint Injection is an outpatient injection procedure that relieves shoulder and arm pain caused by arthritis, injury or disorder.

Multimodal Anesthesia and Pain Control

The Multimodal Anesthesia and Pain Control approach is intended to speed discharge from the hospital, ease the transition to physical therapy, and shorten recovery time. Its goal is to reduce the use of narcotics which can be highly addictive. The multimodal approach uses a combination of different medications and treatments to help prepare a patient for surgery, prevent pain during surgery, and help patients feel better and more alert after surgery.

Subacromial Injection

Subacromial Injection is a procedure where a mixture of anesthesia and anti-inflammatory medication is injected into the space between the acromion and the head of the humerus. A Subacromial Injection can be used to treat a variety of painful conditions, including adhesive capsulitis, rotator cuff tendinosis, and impingement syndrome.

Suprascapular Nerve Block (Fluoroscopically Guided)

Suprascapular Nerve Block (Fluoroscopically Guided) is an outpatient procedure used to treat pain and discomfort from arthritis, bursitis or impingement of the suprascapular nerve in the shoulder joint.

Ultrasound-Guided Injection

Ultrasound-Guided Injection is a non-operative, outpatient procedure designed to provide relief for patients with shoulder pain from conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and adhesive capsulitis, by injecting an inflammation-reducing steroid.
