																					Experience in Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Ficke's journey into orthopedics began during his time
as an EMT in college, where he discovered his interest in treating patients
with broken bones. This initial attraction to the trauma side of orthopedics gradually
evolved into an interest in hand surgery.
Dr. Ficke was drawn to hand surgery due to the complexity
and precision required in diagnosing and treating hand conditions. He enjoys
the variety of procedures that hand surgeons perform, finding satisfaction in
the challenge of new cases while maintaining expertise in a focused field.
In recent years, Dr. Ficke has embraced wide-awake surgery,
which has significantly impacted the practice of hand surgery. This technique,
which has gained popularity over the past decade, allows for many procedures to
be performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Ficke estimates that 40-50% of all his
procedures are now done wide awake, with even higher percentages for specific
conditions like trigger finger and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Dr. Ficke particularly values the opportunity to communicate
with patients during these procedures, allowing him to provide real-time
guidance and build stronger connections with those under his care.
