Meet Dr. Brooks Ficke

About

Growing up in Sandy Springs, Dr. Ficke's goal was always to return and serve his community after completing his medical training. He feels fortunate to have the opportunity to do so through his practice at Resurgens Orthopaedics. This connection to the area often leads to small world moments, where he treats patients who remember him from his youth or know his family from various community activities.

At Resurgens, Dr. Ficke believes in a collaborative approach to treatment. He sees the decision-making process as a shared responsibility between physician and patient. His dedicated staff, many of whom have been with him for years, ensure well-coordinated care and efficient communication in his office.

Outside of Work

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Ficke enjoys time with his family, who includes his wife, two kids, and two dogs. His free time is often filled with his children's school activities, baseball, softball, and cheerleading events.Dr. Ficke is an avid golfer and takes great pleasure in barbecuing, particularly smoking brisket. He is known for his homemade barbecue sauce and often prepares brisket for his local church.

Dr. Ficke's journey into orthopedics began during his time as an EMT in college, where he discovered his interest in treating patients with broken bones. This initial attraction to the trauma side of orthopedics gradually evolved into an interest in hand surgery.

Dr. Ficke was drawn to hand surgery due to the complexity and precision required in diagnosing and treating hand conditions. He enjoys the variety of procedures that hand surgeons perform, finding satisfaction in the challenge of new cases while maintaining expertise in a focused field.

In recent years, Dr. Ficke has embraced wide-awake surgery, which has significantly impacted the practice of hand surgery. This technique, which has gained popularity over the past decade, allows for many procedures to be performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Ficke estimates that 40-50% of all his procedures are now done wide awake, with even higher percentages for specific conditions like trigger finger and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Dr. Ficke particularly values the opportunity to communicate with patients during these procedures, allowing him to provide real-time guidance and build stronger connections with those under his care.
