Local Physician Partners With Calvary Refuge Shelter, Georgia House Representative Mike Glanton to Give More Than 200 Coats and Blankets to the Homeless
Resurgens Orthopaedics Physician Dr. Gary Stewart and Orthopaedic South Surgical Center Host Drive to Collect Donations
Resurgens Orthopaedics physician Dr. Gary Stewart partnered with Orthopaedic South Surgical Center (6645 Lake Drive, Morrow, GA) to collect more than 200 coats and several blankets in a coat and blanket drive to benefit the homeless men, women, and children at Calvary Refuge Center, a faith-based family shelter in Forest Park.
"The hardships of homelessness become even more pronounced during the cold winter months, and 2010 has seen the coldest beginning of a new year since 1982," said Dr. Stewart. "Giving coats and blankets to the homeless gives them another line of defense against the elements."
Georgia House Representative Mike Glanton, who is a member of Calvary Refuge Center's board of directors, accepted the coats and blankets on behalf of the shelter on Thursday, January 7.
Calvary Refuge Center provides up to a year of temporary shelter for families attempting to transition into the working community and prepares them to secure permanent housing. Families living in the shelter have their own private quarters, with sleeping areas and a bathroom. Residents plan and make their own meals. They receive job skill training and finance management training. Calvary also offers a 59-bed emergency overnight shelter that accommodates men, women, and children.
