Barbara McGinity of Resurgens St. Joseph's Office Renders Pen and Ink Drawings by Commission
April 15, 2009 (Atlanta)--Barbara McGinity leads a double life. By day, she enjoys her job pre-verifying insurance coverage at the St. Joseph's office of Resurgens Orthopaedics. On evenings and weekends, she concentrates on her home-based business - creating pen and ink drawings of people's houses.
Ms. McGinity's life as an artist was recently featured in Living in Atlanta magazine, which highlighted her business, Ink House Portraits. For the past 25 years, Ms. McGinity has created personalized portraits of homes. Working from a loft in her Marietta home, she renders the homes in pen and ink, adding a watercolor wash at clients' requests.
"I love working with the people at Resurgens, and I love working quietly on my art at home. I think I have the perfect balance between the two parts of my life," Ms. McGinity said.
Since starting her business in the 1980s, Ms. McGinity has created hundreds of commissioned house portraits in her signature black and white style. According to her Web site, she "creates a personal touch for each portrait by capturing the essence of a home through a relaxed style. Her goal is not to recreate sterile architectural renderings, but rather to infuse the portrait with the character and warmth of your home."
Prices her commissioned works range from $125 to $300, depending on the size of the drawing and complexity of detail.
